Yuvan Sharma

Astrophysics and CS @ UC Berkeley

“Hi! I am Yuvan Sharma, a current Undergraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley. I am going into my second year, double Majoring in Astrophysics and Computer Science. I’ve been working at CompetelQ as an Al Intern since June 2023, focusing on customizing the use of generative large language models (LLMs) to work towards CompetelQ’s goal of improving competitive intelligence. I found CompetelQ through an internship listing on Handshake, and the job description really stood out to me! The first month has been both interesting and rewarding. As this is my first internship in industry, I was curious about lot of the procedures that go into a company’s workflow, and so learning that was one of the highlights of my first few weeks. I also learnt a lot myself, as the work was doing was engaging and motivated me to learn more. I have been working on using LLMs, specifically OpenAl’s API, to build a system that can intelligently learn from user-fed data, like websites and files, and answer questions. The ultimate goal is a ChatGPT-type chatbot that can answer questions quickly and efficiently about the data it was trained on. Three words I would use to describe my internship experience would be: Enriching, Rewarding, Skill-building.”

Since June of this year, I’ve had the privilege of being a Marketing Intern here at CompeteIQ. During my time with the team, I’ve been immersed in various marketing projects, gaining valuable experience in the field. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Ed Allison and focusing on tasks such as refining the company’s website, enhancing SEO, managing our social media presence, and crafting newsletters and blogs. If I were to sum up my internship experience so far in three words, I’d choose: Collaborative, Insightful, Fulfilling.”
